Then the Pharisees plotted how to entangle him in his words and they showed him a Roman coin, a denarius, and asked Jesus "Is it then lawful to pay taxes to Caesar?” “Whose likeness and inscription is this?” Jesus asked. “Caesar’s” they replied and Jesus responded “Therefore render to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and to God the things that are God’s.” and they marvelled and they left him and went away.
